SUPREME COURT ISSUES NOTICE IN A PETITION CALLING FOR SPORTS BE RECOGNIZED AS A FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT UNDER THE ARTICLE 21A

The supreme court issued a notice in a petition seeking that sports be recognized as a fundamental right under the Article 21A of the Constitution and has sought reply of the Central government, the State Government, and the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The petition was filed by Kanishka Pandey, on the behalf of an NGO that she works for – Sports: A way of life. The petition seeks a direction to the Centre to constitute a high-level committee and promotion of physical education and sports in the country. It further wants the center to not discriminate between education and sports and wants right to be incorporated in the Directive Principle of the State Policy contained in the constitution

The matter will be heard next on September 18th.
